Butler Women Rank 20th In Capital One Cup Standings

INDIANAPOLIS—A strong performance by the women’s cross country team has boosted Butler into the No. 20 spot in the Capital One Women’s Cup Fall Standings.  Butler was one of two BIG EAST teams ranked in the “Top 20” in the fall standings.

Butler placed third in the NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country Championship, giving the Bulldogs 10 points in the Capital One Cup competition.  Maryland also earned 10 points and shared the No. 20 spot.  BIG EAST women’s cross country champ Providence is tied for 12th in the standings with 20 points.

Penn State leads the women’s competition after the fall sports season with 62 points.

The Capital One Cup honors the top Division I men’s and women’s athletics programs in the country.  Schools earn points based on their teams’ top 10 finishes in the NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches’ polls across 20 women’s and 19 men’s sports as they compete to win the Capital One Cup trophy and a combined $400,000 in scholarships for student-athletes.

The Capital One Cup winners will be determined at the end of the spring season and honored at the ESPY Awards in July.
