Butler Signs Long-Term Agreement With Nike

May 8, 2008

Butler University athletics and Nike have entered into a long-term agreement that will make Nike the official provider of apparel, footwear and equipment for the Bulldogs. The agreement will be effective beginning with the 2008-09 school year.

"We are excited to announce the partnership between Butler athletics and Nike," stated Butler Director of Athletics Barry Collier. "Under this agreement, our student-athletes will be dressed and equipped with Nike gear. We see this agreement as a major step forward for our department that goes well beyond cost savings. Nike is a world leader in athletic apparel and equipment, and this agreement links Butler athletics with that prestigious brand."

The new agreement will bring the entire Butler athletic department under one brand for the first time. Several of Butler's teams, including the nationally-ranked men's basketball team, have been utilizing Nike apparel and equipment, but there has never been an across-the-board agreement for all teams. Butler will honor existing team apparel/equipment contracts, until such agreements expire.

"Nike is very excited to continue its association with Butler University and pleased to provide the school with our innovative performance products," said Rodney Knox, Nike Public Relations Director. "We value this relationship and are honored to partner with such a quality institution. We certainly applaud and admire the achievements of the school's student-athletes and recognize the quality coaching and administration that fosters this level of success. We clearly believe that our products and support will benefit the goal of sustained excellence at Butler."

In addition to providing equipment, apparel and footwear, the agreement also includes marketing and promotional elements to benefit both parties. Butler joins a prestigious list of Nike college partners and becomes the first Horizon League institution to bring all teams under the Nike brand.

Butler sponsors 19 intercollegiate teams, which include more than 350 student-athletes. The Bulldogs have achieved national prominence in men's basketball, and Butler has captured the Horizon League's James J. McCafferty Trophy for all-sports excellence more times than any other league member.
