Ten Butler Teams Boast Perfect APR Scores
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Ten of Butler’s 19 sports recorded a
perfect score of 1,000 in the latest NCAA Academic Progress Rates,
released on Wednesday (June 20). The figures released by the
NCAA showed all 19 of Butler’s teams maintaining eligibility
for postseason play during the 2012-13 school year.
Butler teams with a perfect APR included the men’s basketball
squad, which made back-to-back appearances in the national
championship game in the past three seasons. The Bulldogs
were one of just two men’s basketball teams in Indiana (Notre
Dame was the other) and one of just 11 nationally to record a
perfect APR. The Butler men’s basketball team has had a
perfect APR for six consecutive years.
Other Butler teams with a perfect APR were men’s cross
country, men’s golf, men’s indoor track, men’s
outdoor track, women’s cross country, women’s golf,
women’s tennis, women’s indoor track and women’s
outdoor track. All 19 Butler teams had a score of 962 or
better.
Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year,
based on the eligibility and retention of each scholarship
student-athlete. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can
face sanctions, such as scholarship losses and restrictions on
practice. Rates are based on the past four year’s
performance.
The standard for postseason access start at 900 APR but over the
next few years climbs to 930, which equates to a 50 percent
Graduation Success Rate.
The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on the scores
from the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years.
Earlier, Butler had 11 teams honored by the NCAA with Public
Recognition Awards for achieving an APR in the top 10 percent of
their Division I peers.
