Jessica Davis, a former basketball player at Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI), has been named assistant athletic director for student development at Butler University. She'll begin her duties on July 21.
Davis will coordinate and oversee Butler's athletic department tutoring program and provide academic support to the University's student-athletes. She'll also have responsibility for Butler's Life Skills program and will assist with the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
A former Kentucky All-Star high school basketball player, Davis was a four-year member of the women's basketball team at IUPUI. She served as a team captain as a senior and was chosen as one of IUPUI's Outstanding Female Student Leaders. She also served as President of IUPUI's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served on the IUPUI Athletic Hiring Committee for the position of Assistant Athletic Director. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in physical education-exercise science from IUPUI in May of 2003.
Davis attended Knox Central High School in Barbourville, Kentucky, and was named the Reebok 13 Regional Player of the Year in basketball as a senior. She averaged 16.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in her final season and earned a spot of the Kentucky All-Star team for the annual Indiana-Kentucky summer all-star series. She capped off her senior year by being named her high school's Female Athlete of the Year.
Since January of 2003, Davis has served an academic internship with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in Indianapolis, working with the NCAA Hall of Champions, the NCAA Stay in Bounds Program and the NCAA Education Outreach Program.
