Butler Athletic Director Announces Department Reorganization

Director of Athletics Barry Collier has unveiled a new administrative structure for the Butler University athletic department, emphasizing a shift toward the priorities of fund-raising, sponsorships and marketing. The reorganization is structured to maintain a strong internal department operation while expanding Butler's external reach.

Under the new department structure, current associate athletic directors Jon Hind, Don Benbow and Jim McGrath will assume new and/or additional responsibilities designed to advance the department's priorities. Hind will become Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations, Benbow will fill the role of Associate Athletic Director of External Operations, and McGrath will become Associate Athletic Director for Communications. Current Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance Julie Wooten will assume the additional role of Senior Woman Administrator. The four administrators will be direct reports to the athletic director. A fifth direct report to the A.D. will be the Director of Marketing, a position that is being reinstated.

"These changes have given us the framework to move our administrative team forward as we will focus on bringing `more dogs to the pack' in our efforts to build a better Butler," said Collier, who began his duties as Director of Athletics in early August. "We are committed to the Butler Way!"

Hind, who most recently served as Butler's Interim Athletic Director, will oversee game operations and event management, facilities, maintenance and budget management. His direct reports will be Bruce Willard, Director of Sports Medicine, and Assistant Athletic Director Mike Marshall, who is taking on additional responsibilities for department vehicles and team travel. Hind also will be responsible for the sports of volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and lacrosse.

Benbow will take on new responsibilities in fund-raising, in addition to financial aid, student accounts and both Horizon League and NCAA reporting duties. Jessica Davis, manager of financial aid, fund-raising and events, will be his direct report, and he'll oversee the sports of football and men's and women's golf.

McGrath will continue to oversee the department's sports information and communications, while taking on sport oversight responsibility for baseball and men's and women's swimming. His direct reports will be Assistant Sports Information Director Chris Urban, the department secretary and the department part-time secretary.

Wooten will take on responsibility for eligibility in addition to her compliance duties, and she'll oversee Sonya Hopkins, new Coordinator of Academic Support. She'll also have sport responsibility for softball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.

The Director of Marketing will handle marketing, promotions and sponsorships for the athletic department and will supervise Manager of Sports Marketing Kara Kovert and Manager of Fan Development Matt Harris.
