Joe Gentry, who served as Communications Director at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) for almost two years, is Butler's Director of Corporate Sponsorships. 

Gentry had spent 19 months at the IHSAA, where his duties included working with the association's corporate partners and serving as the prime contact for radio, television and internet. Prior to joining the IHSAA, he spent 17 years working in the athletic department at the University of Indianapolis.

He attended Butler and spent one year as a graduate assistant in the Butler Sports Information office prior to accepting the position at Indianapolis.

Gentry served as both an administrator and as an intercollegiate coach during his tenure at Indianapolis. He was hired as the University's sports information director in 1988 and a year later, he accepted the additional duties of head men's tennis coach.

He coached the Greyhounds for ten years and led the team to its first-ever NCAA Division II national tournament berth in 1997. He led Indianapolis to five Great Lakes Valley Conference championships, and he was named GLVC Coach of the Year four times.

During his 17 years as sports information director at Indianapolis, Gentry handled media relations for a 21-sport athletic department. He produced press releases, designed and produced athletic publications, handled media operations at home contests, maintained statistics and athletic records, coordinated department photography, and maintained the athletic department web site. Additionally, he served as producer and play-by-play voice for the UIndy TV Network in football and men's and women's basketball (1993-2005).

The versatile administrator successfully nominated 36 Academic All-Americans from 1993 to 2005. He also served as host SID for the 1993 and 2003 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Regionals, the 2001 Division II Baseball Regional, the 2000 and 2001 Division II Men's Tennis Regionals, the 1997 Division II Men's Basketball Regional and the 1997 Division II Wrestling Regional.

Gentry further has been part of the media services staff for the 1991, 1997, 2000 and 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Final Four tournaments, the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final Four, eight NCAA Division I Men's Basketball First and Second Round tournaments, six NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight tournaments, the 2002 World Basketball Championship and the 2002 Big Ten Men's Basketball Championship. He was a member of the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee from 1998 to 2001, serving as men's chair from 1999 to 2001.

Gentry graduated cum laude from Butler with a degree in Radio-TV in 1986. He served as a graduate assistant in the Butler Sports Information Office in 1987-88.

His wife, Dawn, was an assistant basketball coach at Butler, 1988-94.
