Class of 1959: After earning 12 varsity letters and achieving all-state in football and basketball, all-conference in football, basketball and baseball at Kendallville High School, John took the college athletic scene by storm. He earned eight varsity letters and became one of Butler's few four-sport letterwinners. He was a three-year starter at quarterback, a four-year starter in baseball and a participant in four national decathalons, placing 15th in 1958. He also was a member of the 1958 and 1959 NIT basketball teams. After college, he signed to play with the New York Giants, but was injured in pre-season practice. He returned to teach and coach at several Indiana high schools and colleges. At the time of his death in 1993, he was defensive coordinator for Taylor University football in addition to other work.
