Tony Pence established himself as one of the finest defensive linemen to wear a Butler football uniform over four seasons as a varsity regular. He led the Bulldogs in tackles for loss and quarterback sacks in 1979, 1980 and 1981, and he topped the team in total tackles in each of his final two seasons. He was a three-time, first team all-conference performer, and he was named Butler's Most Valuable Defensive Player for two straight seasons (1980-81). In 1980, he was chosen as the Heartland Collegiate Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year. At the time of his graduation, Pence held Butler's single game, single season and career records for solo tackles and quarterback sacks, and he continues to be Butler's all-time leader in quarterback sacks (39)!
