Kit Stetzel, formerly assistant director of athletic media services at IPFW, was named assistant sports information director at Butler University in August of 2013. He filled the position that opened when former Butler assistant SID Josh Rattray was named director of athletics communications at North Carolina State University.
Stetzel, who boasts seven years of collegiate sports information experience, has responsibility for handling media relations for the women’s basketball, volleyball, women’s soccer, swimming, men’s and women’s tennis and baseball teams at Butler. He also serves as manager of Butler’s athletic website, www.ButlerSports.com, and oversees the sports information office student workers.
The new Butler assistant SID served on the athletic media services staff at IPFW from January, 2012, to August, 2013. He was as the primary sports information contact for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis and baseball with the Mastodons, while assisting with the overall media relations program for IPFW’s 15 varsity sports.
Prior to his stint at IPFW, Stetzel worked for two years as an assistant sports information director at the University of Detroit Mercy. At Detroit, he was the primary contact for men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s track and field. He further served as the men’s basketball secondary contact, working every home men’s basketball game.
Stetzel began his career in sports information as a graduate assistant for two years at Ball State University. He earned a master’s degree from Ball State in the fall of 2008 and accepted a position as a public relations intern with the Oakland Raiders. He followed that stint with a two-year position as assistant sports information director at Adrian College.
A native of Indiana, Stetzel earned a B.S. degree in recreation/sports management from Indiana University in 2006.
