CHICAGO - Freshman Nikki Weston swam lifetime bests in the lead leg of two relays to lead the Butler women's swimming team in the first day of the Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships at UIC. BU currently stands seventh, ahead of Valparaiso.
Weston helped Butler to a pair of season-best times in a pair of relays. Her 25.22 to lead off the 200 free relay was a lifetime best. That relay - which also included Megan Wesler, Momo Wilson and Stephanie Moles - finished with a time of 1:42.74.
Weston's 29.51 time to lead off the 200 medley relay was also a lifetime best. The 200 medley team recorded a time of 1:56.01. Wesler, Wilson and Moles also swam in that event.
Moles and freshman Kyle Johannsen led the team in the 1000 free. Johannsen's performance of 11:11.35 was a lifetime best and placed 25th in the event. Moles clocked a season-best mark of 11:19.62.
"We had a solid first day and I am confident we will continue to get better each day," head swimming coach Maurice Stewart said. "The championship atmosphere and energy is high and, I hope we can feed off of that excitement which should allow us to have faster and better performances on Thursday."
