CHICAGO - Six individual season-best efforts and a pair of lifetime bests were the highlights for the Butler women's swimming team as it competed Thursday at the Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships at UIC.
Three Bulldog swimmers posted season bests in the 500 free. Senior Stephanie Moles registered a time of 5:28.80, while freshman Kyle Johannsen (5:31.35) and junior Maria Keyler (6:17.02) also posted season-best performances.
Three BU women - senior Momo Wilson and freshmen Nikki Weston and Lisa Geise - each clocked season bests in the 200 IM. Weston led the way with a mark of 2:14.99 followed by Wilson (2:26.95) and Geise (2:33.47). Sophomore Allie Qualls added a lifetime best in the 200 IM (2:33.55).
Freshman Jessica Onstwedder led in the sprints by posting a lifetime best of 28.16 in the 50 free.
The 400 medley relay team (Onstwedder, Wilson, Anna Taylor, Johannsen) concluded the night by turning in a season-best 4:31.20.
"As a team, we swam a little flat in the prelims today which can't happen if we are going to get individuals into finals," head coach Maurice Stewart said. "This is definitely an eye-opening experience for our young team, and hopefully the competitiveness of these championships will ignite a positive turnaround with better performances for tomorrow events and the remainder of the meet."
The league meet continues Friday and Saturday at the UIC Natatorium.
