INDIANAPOLIS - Sophomore Megan Wesler won the 200 IM and had several other strong swims to lead the Butler women's swimming team at its triangular meet at IUPUI. The host Jaguars and Centre College were the other two teams in the meet.
Wesler clocked a 2:26.36 as the top swimmer in the 200 IM. She also placed 4th in the 1000 free (11:26.15), 6th in the 50 free and she anchored the 400 free relay team's time of 3:57.71. That relay team placed 4th.
Freshman Kyle Johannsen was Butler's top distance swimmer, recording strong efforts in the 1000 and 500 freestyle races. She placed 2nd in the 1000 free (11:17.11) and 4th in the 500 free (5:36.49). She also competed in the 100 back and 400 free relay (B team).
A quartet of freshmen - Nikki Weston, Alyson Fosnot, Caitlin Lawson and Jessica Onstwedder - posted strong swims in what was their second collegiate meet.
Weston recorded a second-place finish in the 100 free (56.25), placed 3rd in the 100 fly (1:02.89) and was 5th in the 50 free (26.02). Fosnot placed 3rd in the 200 fly (2:51.09) while also competing in the 200 IM and 200 medley relay. Lawson placed 5th in the 200 breast (2:45.95) and 6th in the 200 free (2:12.14) while also swimming the 200 IM and on the 400 free relay squad. Onstwedder was Butler's top backstroke swimmer, finishing 5th in both the 100 and 200 back events. She also swam in the 400 free and 200 medley relays.
Senior Stephanie Moles added a third-place showing in the 200 free (2:05.12). She was 5th in both the 100 free (59.24) and the 500 free (5:42.95).
Butler swimming hosts Xavier, IUPUI and Evansville in a quad meet Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. The meet is at Fishers High School.
