Butler Swimming Adds Talented Freshman Class

INDIANAPOLIS - With the fall semester now in full swing, the Butler women's swimming program has added a talented freshman class featuring eight student-athletes. The eight swimmers come from six different states: Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Florida and Tennessee.

"I am definitely excited to have the opportunity to work and challenge these eight incoming freshmen as we continue to move the swimming program forward by raising our level of competitiveness and squad size," head coach Maurice Stewart said. 

Here is some information on each of the eight freshmen student-athletes:

Kathleen Brannen - Three-time all-state honoree, swimming three seasons for Lexington Catholic High School...anchored school-record 200 and 400 free relay teams...won school's leadership award as a senior...made Kentucky Zone team as a freshman...competed for Wildcat Aquatics club swimming for seven years.

Rosalie Fidanze - Three-time letterwinner and two-time state qualifier at Naperville Central...named academic all-conference three times...two-time all-conference performer...stands fifth in school history in 100 breast...member of sectional team for three years...earned team's most improved award after sophomore and junior seasons...competed for Naperville Riptide for three short-course and two long-course seasons...also swam for Naperville Porpoises...also lettered in water polo...National Honors Society member and graduated with honors.

Regan Girten - Four-year letterwinner at Sycamore...qualified for districts in the 100 back, 200 IM and 200 and 400 relay teams...competed for Blue Ash YMCA Swimming, making it to the Summer Nationals in 2008...two-time water polo letterwinner, leading the team to a state runner-up finish in 2008...earned a spot on the honor roll every quarter in high school.

Lauren Lambrecht - Four-year varsity letter winner and three-time all-state performer at Peoria Notre Dame...earned all-america accolades six times...owns four school records...qualified for state meet four times...four-time all-conference honoree...led team to undefeated mark in dual, conference and sectional meets all four years...National Honors Society member and winner of Presidential Excellence Award.

Lauren Need - Four-time letterwinner and team captain at Fishers...placed in top 6 at sectional meet in 200 free...finished in the sectional's top 10 in the 500 free..named Student-Athlete Council Representative for team...National Honor Society member, graduating with honors...named scholar-athlete all four years of high school.

Libby Platau - Four-year varsity swimmer at Hillsborough County in Tampa, Fla. ... qualified for districts all four years and qualified for regionals three times...led team to three district team championships...National Honor Society member...also member of social studies, Spanish and art honor societies...won team GPA award during junior and senior seasons.

Kaitie Ring - Four-time letterwinner and state team qualifier at Houston in Germantown, Tenn. ...qualified for state meet in several events as a senior...swam on 200 free relay team that placed third at state meet...swam on school-record 200 free and medley relay teams...led team to four consecutive county championships...named All-Shelby County...also lettered in volleyball...four-year member of Student Government Executive Board...received Comcast Leadership and Service Scholarship and Above And Beyond Award.

Shelby Tschannen - Four-year letterwinner and team captain at Forest Hills Eastern...placed seventh at conference meet...also earned three varsity letters in water polo.
