BU Swim Team Opens With Home Meet

FISHERS, Ind. - The Butler women's swim team opened its season with a four-team meet Sunday at Fishers High School. Freshmen Kathleen Brannen and Lauren Lambrecht led the Bulldogs in their first collegiate competition.

"I thought out team came together and swam very well in our first home meet," head coach Maurice Stewart said. "Everyone was focused, spirited and ready to compete. We really executed."

Lambrecht had two swims in the top five, placing third of 16 swimmers in the 200 IM (2:15.93) and fifth of 15 in the 100 free (57.49). Another freshman, Kaitie Ring, also had a good swim in the 200 IM, finishing sixth (2:22.10). Brannen was BU's top finisher in the 1000 free, placing fourth (11:15.89).

Butler's 400 free relay team placed fourth, with Lambrecht swimming the lead and Brannen as the anchor. Freshman Lauren Need and sophomore Kyle Johannsen also swam in the relay.

"This is one of the best home meet opening performances I've seen from this team in a while," Stewart added. "This speaks volumes about this very young squad, and I feel everyone is determined and committed to achieve success moving forward."

Valparaiso, Saint Louis and Evansville were the other schools in the meet. Evansville won in the team scores. There were also four men's teams in the event.

Butler's next meet is Friday, Oct. 8 at IUPUI. The Dawgs will swim against IUPUI and Asbury College.
