YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Freshman Kathleen Brannen's performances in the mile and 500 freestyle swims led the Butler women's swimming team Saturday in a dual at Youngstown State.
"We had a solid meet at Youngstown State, rebounding well after a tough meet Friday night at Cleveland," head coach Maurice Stewart said. "Our swimmers are really competing and racing and coming together as a team."
Brannen swam a lifetime-best 18:31.27 in the mile, good for second place. The performance was a top 3 time in school history. Brannen also picked up BU's lone first-place swim, clocking 5:28.44 in the 500 free.
Kyle Johannsen placed third in the mile (19:03) providing scoring support behind Brannen in the event. Kaitie Ring placed second in the 200 free with a time of 2:05.15. Lauren Need finished second in the 200 back with a personal best 2:32.49.
Stewart cited Alyson Fosnot and Jessica Onstwedder as having shown improvement in the 200 IM. Other improved performances include: Libby Platau and Shelby Tschannen (500 free), Regan Girten (100 free) and the 800 free relay team.
