DAYTON, Ohio - The Butler women's swimming team defeated Valparaiso, 137-111 in a three-team meet at Wright State Friday night. Three personal bests and two season-best times highlighted the performance.
"This meet was a very good team performance," head coach Maurice Stewart said. "To get a win over a league opponent is especially exciting. I am really proud of our team effort and spirit.
"The team's goal is to carry this momentum into the House of Champions Invitational next weekend at IUPUI."
Early in the meet, Butler came within :05 of a school record in a season-best 200 medley relay. The combination of freshmen Kaitie Ring, Rosalie Fidanze, Lauren Lambrecht and Kathleen Brannen registered a time of 1:55.14.
Brannen added a season-best effort in the 200 free (2:04.20) and Lambrecht finished second in the 50 free (26.55) and 50 fly (28.26). Fidanze placed third in the 50 breast (34.33).
Freshman Lauren Need turned in her personal best in the 1000 free (11:08.22) and followed that with a second place finish in the 100 fly (1:10.60).
Butler had two strong performances in the 500 free, with sophomore Kyle Johannsen giving a season-best 5:35.43 along with Jessica Onstwedder's personal best of 6:03.24.
