INDIANAPOLIS - Kathleen Brannen placed fifth of 31 in the 500 free Kaitie Ring anchored the 200 free relay and had a strong 200 IM effort to lead the Butler swim team at IUPUI's House of Champions Invitational Friday night. Of 14 swims, 13 were either a lifetime of season best effort.
“This is one of the best starts to a meet we have had this season as a team. Everyone had a season or lifetime best on either a relay or individual event tonight,” Maurice Stewart said. “These ladies made a statement that Butler swimming is an up and coming team and I feel we just gave our competition a taste of that with our team performance tonight.”
Brannen clocked a 5:16.64 in the 500 free, 10 seconds faster than her seeded time. It was the best individual finish for the Bulldogs.
Ring led the 200 free relay with a 24.94 split in the anchor position. Brannen also swam in the event, along with Lauren Lambrecht and Rosalie Fidanze. The 200 free relay squad placed eighth of 18 with a time of 1:43.01. She also placed ninth in the 200 IM.
Lambrect led the Bulldogs in the 200 IM, placing seventh of 33 with a time of 2:14.99.
Kyle Johannsen, Regan Girten, Shelby Tschannen and Alyson Fosnot all added season-best times. Fidanze's time of 26.93 in the 50 free was a lifetime best. Ring and Jessica Onstwedder also had lifetime best performances.
