INDIANAPOLIS – Two relay events, a championship tune-up during fall break and a training trip to Florida highlight the 2010-11 Butler swim schedule. In all, head coach Maurice Stewart will take his squad to 11 events during the season, culminating at the Horizon League Swimming Championships at Cleveland State in February.
“Our 2010-11 schedule will be challenging and will prime both our returners and freshmen for a successful regular season and championship meet at Cleveland State this season,” Stewart said. “Our swimmers will be tested early and often with a very busy and competitive October followed by closing out the first half of the season with our mid-season championship meet at the House of Champions Invite at the IUPUI Natatorium in mid-November.”
The Bulldogs open the season with one of their two home events, a five-team event on Oct. 3 against St. Louis, Valparaiso, Evansville and IUPUI. The following weekend (Oct. 8-9), BU will swim at IUPUI and at the Ball State Relays.
“Going to Ball State’s relays event will give everyone some relay experience and it will be a fun and exciting meet that is close to home,” Stewart said.
Butler’s other home meet is Jan. 23 against Xavier, Hillsdale, Ball State and Valparaiso at North Central’s new pool.
Butler will travel to northeast Ohio during Fall Break for a chance to become familiar with the league championship pool, swimming at Cleveland State’s Busbey Natatorium on Oct. 15 before heading to Youngstown State for a dual meet the next day. Following a meet at Wright State, the Bulldogs will compete in their marquee mid-season event, the House of Champions Invite at IUPUI Nov. 12-13.
Following the January training trip to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., the IUPUI Relays on Jan. 17 and the home meet on Jan. 23, BU closes out the regular season at Rose-Hulman on Feb. 5. The Horizon League Swimming Championships are set for Feb. 23-26 at Cleveland State.
