FISHERS, Ind. - The Butler swimming team beat Horizon League foe Valparaiso and finished fourth in its home meet at Fishers High School Sunday afternoon. Caitlin Weichelt, Lauren Lambrecht led the Bulldogs, who as a team posted a season-best effort in six different events.
Weichelt was strong in the 200 free, 100 breast and 100 free. She placed fourth of 17 swimmers with a time of 2:01.11 in the 200 and then added a season-best time of 1:11.29 to place fifth in the 100 breast. Her 56.20 effort in the 100 free tied her season best and was good for eighth of 21 swimmers.
Lambrecht swam to a fourth-place finish in the 100 fly (1:01.16) in addition to a solid time of 1:12.38 in the 100 breast. Supporting Lambrecht in the 100 fly was Eshan Pua, who placed sixth with a mark of 1:02.06.
Kyle Johannsen started the meet with a season-best swim in the mile free (19:04.47). She placed seventh of 15 in the event. Other season bests included Pua in the 50 free (26.40) and Rosalie Fidanze's time of 2:36.44 in the 200 breast. Fidanze's time was good for sixth of 16 swimmers.
Kaitie Ring placed eighth of 17 in the 100 back (1:03.91) and Lauren Scotti placed sixth of 24 in the 50 free (25.83). Her time was just a half-second off her season top time.
Butler totaled 224.5 points to finish fourth. Valparaiso had 150 points. Youngstown State won the meet with a score of 644.50.
Butler's next meet is a three-team contest at Valparaiso Saturday, Jan. 28. Monmouth is the third team in the meet.
