Butler Finishes 2nd At IUPUI


INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler swimming team placed second of three teams in its final meet before the Horizon League Swimming Championships later this month. Rosalie Fidanze and Hannah Somerville posted season bests and Lauren Scotti won the 100 back to lead the Bulldogs.

IUPUI won the team scoring, followed by Butler. The Bulldogs did fare better than the meet's third team, Rose Hulman.

Fidanze placed second in the 100 breast with a season-best mark of 1:10.42. The team's other season best came in the 200 IM, where Somerville placed touched the wall second with a time of 2:21.21. In addition, Somerville placed second in the 100 back (1:03.84).

Scotti, who was last week's Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week, won the 100 back and finished second in the 50 free. Her 100 back mark of 1:03.00 was just ahead of Somerville for first place. Scotti clocked 25.65 to touch the wall second in the 50 free.

Kyle Johannsen placed third in the 500 free (5:44.33) and Caitlin Weichelt was third in the 50 free (26.75).

Butler has one meet remaining this season. The Horizon League Swimming Championships will be held in Brown Deer, Wis., near Milwaukee Feb. 22-25.
