New conference and old conference. The Butler swimming team competed twice over the weekend, getting a taste of Atlantic 10 competition and also taking on former league foe Youngstown State.
Swimming in the pool at Spire Institute in Ohio, which will host the Atlantic 10 Championships, BU took on St. Bonaventure, Xavier, Duquesne and La Salle.
The Bulldogs were led by Amanda Wagner, who placed sixth of 19 swimmers in the 100 breast (1:09.04). It was Butler's best individual finish in the meet. Rosalie Fidanze led BU in the 200 breast (2:34.15) and Caitlin Weichelt was a leader in the 500 free (5:20.35). Fidanze was 10th in the 200 breast and Weichelt placed 12th in the distance event. Lauren Scotti also turned in a time of 2:12.75 in the 200 back, good for ninth place.
The next day, Butler visited Youngstown State for a dual meet. The final result in the team scoring was 134-104 in favor of YSU.
Emma Green and Cecilia Rose were Butler's top distance swimmers. Green clocked 11:32.00 in the 1000 and Rose went 5:48.47 in the 500 free. Each swimmer placed second in her event.
Weichelt was a strong sprinter, clocking 58.29 in the 100 free. Allie Dvorchak led Butler in the 100 fly (1:05.21) and Wagner registered 1:09.50 in the 100 breast. Butler's leading backstroke swimmers were Kaitie Ring in the 100 back (1:03.54) and Megan Boebinger in the 200 back (2:21.39).
Butler's next meet is Saturday, Nov. 10 at UIC, another former league opponent.
