GENEVA, Ohio - A 13-year-old school record fell Friday night as the Butler swimming team continued at the Atlantic 10 Swimming Championships.
It was the third straight day BU's relay teams set school records. The 400 medley relay team (Emma Green-Amanda Wagner-Megan Boebinger-Caitlin Weichelt) swam the event in 3:59.56. The mark topped a 4:00.50 posted by Butler in the year 2000. Earlier this week, Butler relay squads had topped school records in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
Eleven other performances on the night were top 10 marks in Butler history. The night started with Green and Elizabeth Miller swimming lifetime bests in the 400 IM. Green's time of 4:49.54 stands sixth in school history, while Miller's time of 4:51.07 is seventh. In the 100 fly, Boebinger (59.03) placed her name fourth on Butler's all-time list and Lauren Lambrecht (59.62) ranks seventh.
Three sprint freestyle swimmers posted times good enough for Butler's all-time lists. Weichelt (1:57.13) and Sarah Gibbons (2:00.08) excelled in the 200 free. Weichelt's time ranks sixth at Butler and Gibbons ninth. In the 100 free, Serena Daley clocked 54.77, good for 10th on the school's all-time chart.
In the 100 breast, Wagner and Rosalie Fidanze led the team. Wagner clocked 1:07.37 in the event, good for fourth in school history. Fidanze's mark of 1:09.22 is sixth on BU's list.
Green, who had already been a standout in the record-setting relay swim and the 400 IM, recorded a time of 59.95 in the 100 back. That lifetime best mark was the third best 100 back time in school history. Lauren Scotti had a season-best time of 1:01.29, which is now fifth on BU's list. Hayden Engstrom and Abigail Gibbons each added a lifetime best in the 100 back. In the 50 free, Fidanze added a liftime-best time and Abigail Gibbons a season best.
Butler's season concludes Saturday, Feb. 23 during the final day of the A-10 league meet.
