MASON, Ohio - The Bulldogs set a school record in the 200 medley relay to highlight a successful first day for the Butler swimming team at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
"The girls are off to a great start," head coach Maurice Stewart said. "The great swims tonight have definitely set the tone and instilled confidence in the team moving forward for the rest of the week. I am so proud of the effort tonight and the positive energy that was given from the non-relay swimmers during this session tonight."
The 200 medley relay squad posted a time of 1:49.97, good for 10th place. Lauren Scotti swam the first leg with a backstroke time of 28.11 and Serena Daley anchored with a 24.47 freestyle mark. Amanda Wagner and Lauren Lambrecht also contributed to the school record.
Nearly as impressive was BU's mark in the 800 free relay. The quartet of Dawgs - Emma Green, Sarah Gibbons, Daley and Caitlin Weichelt - posted a 7:51.05, the second-best time in that event in school history. Green led off the 800 free relay with a lifetime-best 50 free (25.94) to start the swim. She ended with a 1:58.97 time. Daley added a 1:58.3 mark and Weichelt finished strong with a time of 1:55.90.
