Swimming Completes First Day Of UIndy Invite

Indianapolis, Ind. - Sarah Lynne Gates notched a pair of top five finishes and Leigh Weston and Stephanie Moles each added another as the Butler women's swimming team wrapped up the first day of the University of Indianapolis Invitational on Friday (Jan. 9) afternoon at the Ruth Lilly Center Pool.

Gates picked up two fifth-place showings on the first day, swimming to a 35.33 in the 50 breaststroke and a 1:06.18 in the 100 IM. Weston, meanwhile, added a third-place time of 33.17 in the 50 breast, while Moles posted a fourth-place effort in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 19:42.64.

Katie Krueger notched a pair of top-10 finishes in the meet, completing the 200 freestyle in a seventh-place time of 2:12.40 and adding a sixth-place 27.46 in the 50 free. Weston also added a seventh-place time of 28.01 in the 50 free.

Libby Bates led the Bulldogs in the 100 backstroke, swimming the trip in 1:09.89, and added a 1:09.61 in the 100 IM. Maria Keyler also posted a pair of fast times, swimming the 200 free in 2:21.82 and the 100 back in 1:16.42.

Allison Qualls (100 fly - 1:11.47), Allison Shafer (50 breast - 36.43) and Kendall Wormley (50 breast - 41.24) also tallied solid showings on the first day.

The University of Indianapolis Invitational concludes on Saturday (Jan. 10) beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Ruth Lilly Center Pool.
