Weston Scores Win In 100 Breaststroke At UIndy Invite

Indianapolis, Ind. - Sophomore Leigh Weston led a flurry of top-10 finishes for the Butler women's swimming team on the final day of competition at the University of Indianapolis Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon, as the Pendleton, Ind., native picked up a victory in the 100 breaststroke.

Weston, the Bulldogs' top swimmer in the event during the year, finished just over a second shy of her season-best time with a tournament-fast 1:11.79.

Libby Bates, Sarah Lynne Gates, Katie Krueger each notched a pair of top-10 finishes in the invitational. Bates posted a ninth-place 1:19.18 in the 100 breast and added a 10th-place time of 33.60 in the 50 backstroke, while Gates scored a fifth-place time of 31.30 in the 50 back and a sixth-place 29.62 in the 50 fly. Krueger, meanwhile, finished eighth in the 50 back with a time of 33.14 and 10th in the 100 free with a swim of 1:01.05.

Stephanie Moles and Allison Qualls each posted ninth-place showings in the tournament, with Moles' coming in the 50 back with a time of 33.56 and Qualls' coming in the 200 IM with a time of 2:43.16.

The Bulldogs will have nearly a month off before closing out the regular season on Feb. 8 when they host IUPUI and Valparaiso at Warren Central High School beginning at 1:00 p.m.
