Bulldogs Score Eight Wins In 144-129 Triumph Over Rose-Hulman

Terre Haute, Ind. - The spring season opened up with success abound for the Butler swimming team, as the Bulldogs scored seven individual wins and a relay decision en route to a 144-129 triumph over host Rose-Hulman on Saturday (Jan. 12).
The Bulldogs came up just short of sweeping the tri-meet, falling to Transylvania, 132-124.
Sarah Lynne Gates led the way for Butler, tallying wins in all three of her events on the day. She claimed a victory in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.00 before swimming the 200 back in first-place 2:19.35. She closed out the meet with a time of 5:00.16 in the 400 IM for her third decision.
Leigh Weston notched a pair of victories on the day, swimming to a first-place time of 1:11.25 in the 100 breaststroke and notching another victory in the 200 breast with a time of 2:34.33.
Elizabeth Shafer also tallied two wins in the meet, completing the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:04.72 and the 500 free in a time of 5:30.55. She also placed second with a time of 27.20 in the 50 free.
Stephanie Moles posted a runner-up showing in the 100 breast with a time of 1:13.25, added third place finishes in the 1,650 free (20:02.59) and in the 100 freestyle (1:00.77) and swam the 500 free in 5:46.05 to place fourth. Momo Wilson also notched a runner-up showing in the 200 breast with a time of 2:36.43 and finished fifth in the 200 free with a season-best time of 2:12.77.
Katie Krueger tallied three top-five showings, placing third in the 100 free with a time of 59.73, fourth in the 50 free with a time of 27.61 and fifth in the 100 back with a time of 1:10.87.
Anna Taylor swam to three season-best marks in the meet. She posted a season-best time of 2:17.97 in the 200 free, notched a fourth-place time of 2:42.44 in the 200 fly and placed fifth in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 1:10.62.
Kendall Wormley claimed fifth-place showings in the 200 fly (2:47.09) and in the 400 IM with a season-best mark of 5:37.44. Maria Keyler placed sixth in the 400 IM with a season-best time of 5:59.52, while Brianne Owens finished sixth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 3:00.68.
The 800 freestyle relay team of Shafer, Moles, Wilson and Gates closed out the meet with a first-place time of 8:33.97. The 400 medley squad of Krueger, Weston, Wilson and Taylor, meanwhile, placed third with a time of 4:35.65.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Jan. 19) when they head to Horizon League foe Green Bay for a tri-meet with the Phoenix and Northern Michigan.
