Carmel, Ind. - Seniors Mary Beth Arnold and Jason Brozek each notched event wins for the Bulldogs against UW-Green Bay on Sunday (Jan. 14), but Butler fell in both the men's and women's team competitions by scores of 144-80 and 141-93, respectively.
Arnold scored a victory in the 200 breaststroke, out-touching UW-Green Bay's Holly Carlisle for the win with a 2:29.62. She also added a strong showing in the 200 fly, finishing in third with a personal season-best time of 2:29.55.
Meanwhile, Brozek claimed a win in the 200 fly with a personal season-best time of 2:01.65. He also placed second in the 200 back, swimming to a season-best 2:06.93.
On the women's side, Sarah Lynne Gates posted strong showings in the 200 free (2:08.19) and 200 back (2:25.29), while Katie Krueger notched fast times in the 50 free (27.17), 100 free (1:00.36) and in the 100 back (1:11.83). Elizabeth Shafer finished with a 1:00.06 in the 100 free and a 2:10.81 in the 200 free, and Stephanie Moles notched quick showings in the 50 free (27.51), 200 free (2:11.25) and 500 free (5:55.48).
Ali Overgaard notched a pair of personal-bests swimming in the events for the first time this year, notching a 1:14.29 in the 100 back and a 2:44.34 in the 200 breast. Julie Elmore added personal season-best marks of 11:50.42 in the 1,000 free and 2:40.90 in the 200 fly, while Melissa Nemec added a 1:02.39 in the 100 free, a 1:09.52 in the 100 back and a 1:08.35 in the 100 fly.
For the men, Raj Duggal posted strong performances in the 200 free (1:51.79) and in the 500 free (5:01.41), while Chris Gordon added solid showings in the 100 free (48.81), 200 free (1:51.76) and 500 free (5:20.27). Ben Shafer swam well in the 100 breast (1:10.41) and in the 200 breast (2:37.13), and Korey McCulley finished with a fast time in the 50 free (22.49).
Travis Cheney scored season-bests in the 1,000 free (11:41.44) and in the 200 back (2:22.64), while Josh Bennett added strong showings in the 100 breast (1:10.81) and in the 400 IM (5:07.35). Additionally, Jeff Harrigan finished with a 2:50.86 in the 200 breast and a 5:15.48 in the 400 IM.
The Bulldogs take on IUPUI, Saint Louis and South Dakota State at the IUPUI Natatorium in a two-day event, beginning on Friday (Jan. 19) at 6:30 p.m. and concluding on Saturday (Jan. 20) starting at 8:30 a.m.
