Indianapolis, Ind. - Bulldog senior Raj Duggal scored a win in the 1,000 freestyle at the IUPUI Natatorium on Friday (Jan. 19) and the men's 200 free relay team added a victory as well, but the men's swimming team fell to IUPUI, South Dakota State and Saint Louis in the final team results on Friday (Jan. 19) and Saturday (Jan. 20). Mary Beth Arnold added three second-place showings, but the women's squad also dropped in the three team match-ups.
Duggal swam to a season-best 10:01.71 in the 1,000 freestyle, claiming the Bulldogs' first event win of the meet. Duggal also added a third-place showing in the 500 free with a time of 4:57.85.
The men's 200 free relay team of Korey McCulley, Jason Brozek, Jimmy Howard and Chris Gordon followed with a first-place time of 1:29.36.
Arnold recorded the women's team's top showings in the meet, swimming to a second-place time of 25.50 in the 50 free, a runner-up mark of 1:09.14 in the 100 breast and another second-place time of 2:30.86 in the 200 breast.
On the men's side, McCulley added a second-place time of 22.54 in the 50 freestyle and notched a season-best mark of 2:05.80 in the 200 backstroke. Meanwhile, Gordon swam to a second-place time of 48.74 in the 100 free and a third-place mark of 22.59 in the 50 free.
For the women, Stephanie Altepeter notched a season-best mark in the 1,000 freestyle, finishing the distance in 11:36.66.
The Bulldogs return to action on Jan. 28 when they head to Dayton, Ohio for a noon meeting with Wright State.
