Indianapolis, Ind. - Senior Elizabeth Shafer notched one of the fastest times in Butler history and numerous other swimmers tallied season-best marks as the Bulldogs concluded the regular season against IUPUI on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at the IUPUI Natatorium.
Shafer put together one of the fastest 1,000 yard freestyle performances in school history, swimming to an 11:05.20 - the third-fastest time ever - and finishing a mere 16 hundredths of a second shy of a victory. She also added a strong showing in the 500 free, posting a time of 5:30.13.
Sarah Lynne Gates scored a third-place finish while improving on her season-best time in the 400 IM with a 4:55.30. Additionally, she led off the 200 freestyle relay with a season-fast mark of 26.47.
Momo Wilson improved on her own season-best mark in the 200 free, cutting over five and a half seconds off her previous top time with a 2:07.24 swim. She also trimmed 0.3 seconds off her season-fast 100 fly time with a 1:09.73.
Katie Krueger, meanwhile, added a personal-best mark in the 50 freestyle, finishing third with a time of 26.54 while shaving 11 hundredths off the previous top mark.
Leigh Weston continued to improve on her season-best 100 freestyle time, cutting almost three seconds off her previous best with a time of 1:00.26.
The Bulldogs fell in the final team scoring, as IUPUI claimed a 113-66 decision.
Butler will have two weeks of preparation for the Horizon League Championship, which runs Feb. 20-25 at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium in Cleveland.
