Bulldogs Off to Strong Start at Horizon League Championships
Feb. 23, 2006
Junior Raj Duggal started off the weekend with a school-record time of 9:29.85 in the 1000-yd. freestyle, a mark that bested his previous standard of 9:34.76 set in 2004. Duggal's time earned him a third-place finish in the event at the 2006 Horizon League Championships being held at the Busbey Natatorium at Cleveland State University.
"We really started out well Wednesday," said Butler coach Maurice Stewart. "The team is swimming outstanding. Fifteen of our 19 swims so far have resulted in season-bests, so that's encouraging. Raj went out and swam a school record in the 1000 Wednesday night and that really set the tone for the rest of the team."
In addition to Duggal's personal-best, 11 other Bulldogs have already set season- or lifetime-best times through Thursday's preliminaries. The list includes Elizabeth Shafer, Sarah Lynne Gates, Mary Beth Arnold, Elaine Mohler, Katie Krueger, Amanda Walter and Krista Peterson on the women's side and Jeff Martin, Jason Brozek, Korey McCulley and Travis Cheney in men's competition.
Thursday evening's finals sessions includes the 500-yd. freestyle, 200-yd. individual medley, 50-yd. freestyle and 400-yd. medley relay events, in addition to women's one-meter diving competition.
