Brown Deer, Wis. - A school-record swim by senior Sarah Lynne Gates highlighted another fast day in the pool for the Butler women's swimming team, as the Bulldogs posted eight season-best times during the second day of the 2009 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship at the Schroeder YMCA on Thursday (Feb. 26) evening.
Gates got the day started in impressive fashion, notching a 200 IM prelim swim of 2:10.95 to break the previous school record (2:11.19) by nearly a quarter of a second. The record-setting mark didn't even last long enough to finish out the day, however, as Gates returned to the pool in the evening finals session and promptly bested the mark by 0.15 seconds with a 12th-place swim of 2:10.80.
Eight other swimmers picked up season-best times on the day.
Stephanie Moles beat out her season-best mark in the 500 free by 10 seconds with a swim of 5:22.78, while Libby Bates topped her top time in the event by 16 seconds with a time of 5:27.21. Maria Keyler also improved on her season-best time in the 500 free with a swim of 5:52.16.
Allison Shafer recorded a season-best mark in the 200 IM with a time of 2:26.25. Additionally, Kendall Wormley shaved nearly four seconds off her season-best time in the 200 IM with a lifetime-best swim of 2:29.40, while Allison Qualls knocked-off nearly four seconds from her season-fast time in the event with a swim of 2:33.99.
The Horizon League Championship continues on Friday (Feb. 27) with prelims beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET (10:30 a.m. CT) and finals starting at 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. CT) at the Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, Wis.
