Indianapolis, Ind. - Senior Sarah Lynne Gates scored a pair of wins and sophomore Leigh Weston added a victory and a runner-up showing as the Bulldogs competed against Centre College and host IUPUI on Friday (Oct. 17) evening at the IUPUI Natatorium.
Gates notched victories in both backstroke events. She out-touched her closest competitor in the 100 backstroke by .75 seconds, finishing with a top mark of 1:02.77, and out-paced the runner-up in the 200 backstroke by over five seconds with a time of 2:15.40.
Weston, meanwhile, finished less than a second shy of a win in the 100 breaststroke, notching a time of 1:11.54, before scoring a decisive victory in the 200 breast with a time of 2:33.75.
Sophomore Libby Bates also added some strong showings in the meet, finishing fourth in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:47.38 and picking up fifth-place times in the 100 free (59.43) and the 200 IM (2:26.49).
Junior Stephanie Moles posted fifth-place swims in the 200 free (2:07.76), 500 free (5:41.75) and 200 fly (2:37.13), while Momo Wilson (1:11.91 in the 100 fly) and Katie Krueger (26.77 in the 50 free) notched fifth-place times of their own.
The 200 medley relay team of Gates, Weston, Wilson and Krueger posted a third-place time of 1:59.49, while Gates, Krueger, Moles and Bates tallied a 3:54.73 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Butler returns to action in two weeks when it heads to Cleveland on Oct. 31 for a tri-meet with Canisius and host Cleveland State beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.
