Junior Mary Beth Arnold claimed the 50-yd. breaststroke in Saturday's dual meet at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., getting to the wall in a time of 32.21. The Hilltoppers won the men's competition, 152-90, and the women's meet, 147-106.

Arnold also posted impressive times in the 100-yd. breaststroke (1:10.11) and 100-yd. butterfly (1:08.41).

"Western Kentucky will probably be the fastest team we face this season," said Butler coach Maurice Stewart. "It was a good opportunity for our athletes to compete against some very good athletes and the Sun Belt Conference Championship team. This meet allowed us to identify individual strengths and weaknesses and will also better prepare the team for the Horizon League Championships in late February."

Stewart also noted the efforts of sophomore Genny Berning (first time swimming the 1000-yd. freestyle this season), freshman Sarah Lynne Gates (personal-best time in the 400-yd. individual medley and just missed her personal-best in the 100-yd. backstroke), sophomore Elizabeth Shafer in the 100-yd. freestyle and diver Jennifer Weiss.

On the men's side, Stewart noted that freshman Travis Cheney dropped three seconds in the 200-yd. freestyle from last weekend's meet and freshman Richard Keca competed well in both the 100-yd. backstroke and 100-yd. butterfly.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday, Nov. 11, facing IUPUI, Xavier and Evansville at the IU Natatorium on the IUPUI campus in downtown Indianapolis. The meet begins at 6:30 p.m.
