The Butler women's swimming team resumes its 2008-09 schedule this weekend, as it opens the New Year close to home at the University of Indianapolis Invitational from Friday-Saturday (Jan. 9-10) at the Ruth Lilly Center Pool.
The Bulldogs will take on both UIndy and IUPUI in the two-day event which begins at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Butler returns to competition for the first time since concluding the House of Champions Invitational a month ago on Dec. 6 at the IUPUI Natatorium. The Bulldogs finished the tournament in seventh place with a score of 154.
The Bulldogs posted 19 season-best times at the invite, with sophomore Leigh Weston and junior Momo Wilson each recording top-eight finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, respectively, and senior Sarah Lynne Gates notching three season-best marks.
Gates currently leads the Bulldogs with eight season-best times, including top marks in the 50, 100, 200 and 1,000 freestyles and both backstroke and IM events. She also swam the lead leg in four of the five top relay swims of the year.
Junior Stephanie Moles owns a pair of top times, coming in the 500 free and the 200 butterfly, while Weston (100 breast), Wilson (200 breast) and junior Kendall Wormley (100 fly) hold the remaining top swims.
The University of Indianapolis Invitational will be Butler's final competition for nearly another month, as the Bulldogs conclude the 2008-09 regular season at home against IUPUI and Horizon League foe Valparaiso on Feb. 8. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Warren Central High School.
The Horizon League Championship runs from Feb. 25-28 in Brown Deer, Wis.
