Jan. 14, 2003

The Butler women's and men's swimming teams participated in the University of Indianapolis Invitational over the past weekend. The women finished in sixth place with 344 points, behind the host Greyhounds (803), Grand Valley State (446), Wayne State (429), Lewis (425) and IUPUI (422). The Bulldog men also placed sixth at the Invitational.

QUOTING ELLIS: "My swimmers finished an excellent break with some really revealing swims," said head coach Nichole Ellis."The level of training that we did and the number of yards that we swam over the last two weeks was tremendous. Trying to go fast and hold strokes together after beating your body to a pulp is extremely difficult. The reality is that we still swam the same times we have all year, but I expect the next few weeks of major speed work to help our times drop as the season comes to an end."

OFF TO THE RACES: Carlton Racette posted three fourth place finishes at the University of Indianapolis Invitational. Racette's fourth place finishes came in the 200 IM (2:03.75), the 400 IM (4:26.46) and the 200 Butterfly (2:05.29).

TOP FINISHER: Sophomore Jesse Levknecht recorded a trio of "Top Five" finishes over the weekend at the University of Indianapolis Invitational. Levknecht placed third in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:04.34, finished fourth in the 200 Butterfly in 2:16.42 and swam the 100 Butterfly in 1:02.65 for a fifth place finish.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME: Freshman Amanda Walter recorded three lifetime bests at the U of I Invitational. Walter swam the 200 Freestyle in 2:21.30, the 50 Freestyle in 30.85 and the 100 Freestyle in 1:05.60, all of which were personal bests.
