The Butler women's swimming team concludes its regular season this weekend when it hosts cross-town rival IUPUI and Horizon League foe Valparaiso on Sunday (Feb. 8) beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Warren Central High School. The meet will also serve as Senior Day, with seniors Sarah Lynne Gates and Katie Krueger being honored prior to the competition.
Gates has been one of the Bulldogs' top swimmers this season and during her four-year career. She boasts eight of the team's top times this season, including the 50, 100, 200 and 1,000 freestyles and both backstroke and individual medley events. The Lexington, Ky., native also holds five of the school's top-10 all-time marks, with her career-best 100 backstroke time ranking second in Butler history.
Krueger, meanwhile, has added some of the Bulldogs' fastest swims this season and in her career. She has swum to three of the team's the top three times this season and posted four top-10 finishes at the University of Indianapolis Invitational. Additionally, the Malone, Wis., native's career-best time in the 50 freestyle is the eighth-fastest in Butler history.
The meet will be the Bulldogs' first in nearly a month, with Butler's last competition coming in early January at the University of Indianapolis Invitational.
The Bulldogs will take on both IUPUI and Valpo in head-to-head action for the second time this season. Butler took on the Jaguars at the IUPUI Natatorium on Oct. 17 and hosted the Crusaders at Fishers High School on Oct. 5.
Following the meet, the Bulldogs will have over two weeks to prepare for the upcoming Horizon League Championship, which runs Feb. 25-28 in Brown Deer, Wis.
