Men's & Women's Swimming: Weekly Notes (October 24, 2001)

DIVING RIGHT IN: The Butler men's and women's swimming teams began their 2001-02 campaign this weekend at the Indiana Intercollegiates at Purdue University. Other teams participating in the meet were Ball State, IUPUI, University of Indianapolis, Valparaiso, Vincennes and the host Boilermakers. The men's finished with a total of 91 points on the day, giving them a seventh place finish, while the women's team tallied 83 points, giving them a sixth place finish ahead of Vincennes.
SWIMMING STRONG: Senior Brett Balhoff (Monclova, Ohio) recorded both of the Butler men's team's two top ten finishes at the Indiana Intercollegiates. Balhoff finished tenth in the 200 IM, finishing with a time of 2:04.47. Balhoff also finished tenth in the 500 Free with a time of 5:07.38. In the 100 Breaststroke, Balhoff recorded three points for his 14th place finish, giving him a total of 17 points on the day.
A TOP FINISHER: Freshman Kalee Guilling (Plymouth, Ind.) put forth an impressive performance at her first collegiate meet. Guilling was Butler's top finisher of the day, placing fifth in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.08, which is second on Butler's all-time record list. She also placed seventh in the 100 Free with a time of 55.31 and swam the first leg of the 200 Free Relay, which finished fourth with a time of 1:45.14. By the end of the meet, Guilling had helped tally 56 of Butler's 83 total points.
OTHER NOTABLES: Senior Anna Pecharich (Richmond, Ill.) recorded Butler's other top ten finish on the women's side, with a 10th place finish in the 100 Fly, just ahead of Jesse Levknecht (Ada, Mich.) and Erin McPeak (Zionsville, Ind.) who finished 12th and 13th, respectively. The men's 200 Medley Relay finished in eighth place with a time of 1:43.85, giving the team 28 points. Members of the relay team are Brendan VanCleve (Byron, Ill.), Ryan Ellis (Plainfield, Ind.), John Allan (Mariemont, Ohio) and Stephen Anderson (Lowell, Ind.).
A LOOK AHEAD: The Bulldogs will host Cleveland State and UW-Green Bay on Sunday, Oct. 28 in a tri-dual meet which will be swam at Carmel High School in Indianapolis, Ind. beginning at noon.
