Swimming: Weekly Notes (November 1, 2001)

A LOOK AHEAD: The Butler men's and women's swimming teams will travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to participate at Western Kentucky on Nov. 3. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Along with WKU and Butler, Louisiana-Monroe is scheduled to participate in the three-team dual meet. The meet will consist of a 16-event lineup rather than the 12-event lineup.

THIS PAST WEEK: MEN'S-The Butler men's swimming team lost to both Cleveland State and UW-Green Bay over the weekend, as the Vikings scored 171 points to Butler's 42 points and the Phoenix posted 178 points to Butler's 39 points. Cleveland State defeated UW-Green Bay 132-88 in the other head-to-head competition. WOMEN'S-The Butler women's team also lost to both CSU and UWGB, as they were outscored 128-81 by the Vikings and 164-55 by Green Bay. The Phoenix amassed 141.50 points versus Cleveland State's 77.50 in other competition.

TOP FINISHER: On the men's team, senior Brett Balhoff (Monclova, Ohio) emerged as Butler's top finisher, taking fourth place finishes in both the 1000 Free (10:19.49) and the 200 IM (2:04.63), giving the Bulldogs four points on the day.

FAST FRESHMEN: Freshman Kaylee Quilling (Plymouth, Wis.) and classmate Liz Klueh (Evansville, Ind.) posted strong showings over the weekend as Quilling finished third in the 50 Free with a time of 25.12 and Klueh placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.79, each garnering three points for their finish.

OTHER NOTABLES: Juniors Mindy Champa (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Tara Wetzel (Champaign, Ill.) took two of the top five finishes in the 1000 Freestyle, giving their team four points. Champa touched the wall in 11:36.00, placing her in third, while Wetzel placed fifth in the event with a time of 11:39.34. Sophomore Catie Scott (Libertyville, Ill.) also had a "top five" finish, placing fifth in the 200 Free with a time of 2:02.84.
