UP NEXT: The Butler swimming teams will travel to Charleston, Ill. this weekend to compete against Eastern Illinois University on Saturday, Nov. 10. Competition against the Panthers is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
SUFFERING A SETBACK AT WKU: The Butler swimming team had a tough time on Saturday (Nov. 3) before they ever dove into the pool. The charter bus taking the Bulldogs to Bowling Green for the Western Kentucky meet got a flat tire on the way down to Kentucky, delaying the team's arrival almost two hours. After arriving just minutes before the meet's start time the Butler swimming teams lost to WKU and Louisiana-Monroe. The men's team fell to the hosts 152-91 and 127-106 to Louisiana-Monroe, while the women's swimming team lost to the Hilltoppers 153-90 and 145-110 to the Indians.
GOING THE DISTANCE: Senior distance swimmer Brett Balhoff emerged as Butler's top finisher over the weekend, placing second in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:04.42 and third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.44. Balhoff also placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.28.
QUICK QUILLING: Freshman Kaylee Quilling had another solid week in the pool, despite Butler's losses to WKU and Louisiana-Monroe. Quilling finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.72 and placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 57.27. The Plymouth, Wis. native also swam the first leg in Butler's 400-yard freestyle relay team, which placed second, as well as swimming the final leg in the 200-yard medley relay which finished fourth in the meet.
OTHER NOTABLES: Sophomore Erin McPeak placed third in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly...John Allan earned a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke and earned third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke...Brendan VanCleave swam 57.16 in the 100-yard backstroke, earning third place in the meet...Liz Klueh placed third in the 100 and 200 backstroke, as well as the 200-yard IM...John Allan took third place in the 100-yard breastroke with a time of 1:04.62.
