Swimming: Weekly Notes (November 13, 2001)

UP NEXT: The Butler swimming teams will participate in a three-team dual meet against IUPUI and Bradley on Friday, Nov. 16 at the IUPUI Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

PANTHERS TOP BULLDOGS: Eastern Illinois defeated Butler in both the men's and women's head-to-head competition on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Charleston, Ill. The Panthers defeated Butler's men's swimming team 130-96, while Butler's women's squad lost 140-105.

IT'S LOOKING GRIMM-ER: Butler's James Grimmer took home two of the Bulldogs' four first-place finishes. The senior from Dunlap, Ill. won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.71 and touched the wall first in the 100 yard freestyle with a mark of 49.93. Grimmer also swam the third leg on Butler's 200 yard freestyle relay team, which placed first in a time of 1:31.96. Other members of the relay team were Patrick McKenney, Ryan Ellis, and Carlos Girolamo.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Senior Brian Balhoff also captured two first place finishes over the weekend, taking the top prize in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:20.16) and in the 400 yard individual medley (4:22.66).

AT HER PEAK: Sophomore Erin McPeak brought home a first place finish for Butler's women's swimming team, winning the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:14.82. McPeak also swam the third leg of the 200 yard medley relay, which placed first. Teammates Liz Klueh, Melinda Harrald and Kristen France were also members of the top-finishing relay team.

OTHER NOTABLES: Senior Anna Pecharich won the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 2:02.41. Freshmen Liz Klueh and Jesse Levknecht also recorded top finishes for the Bulldogs. Klueh, a product of Evansville, Ind., won the 400 yard individual medley in 4:51.36, while Levknecht won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:02.86, just beating Klueh who finished the race in second place with a time of 104:49.
