Butler Swimming: Weekly Notes (January 22, 2002)

UP NEXT: The Butler swimming teams will participate in the Bill Ritter Invitational held at UW-Milwaukee on Jan. 25-26. Other teams participating in the Invitational are Illinois State (women), Marquette (club team), UIC, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee. The meet is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 and at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26.

PANTHERS NIP BULLDOGS: Butler's men's and women's swimming teams both lost to UW-Milwaukee on Saturday (Jan. 19). The men's squad lost 128-73, while the women's team was defeated 142-75.

TOLEDO, EVANSVILLE, LOUISVILLE SWIM PAST BUTLER: The Butler swimming teams lost to Toledo, Evansville and Louisville on Monday (Jan. 21) in a dual meet at the IUPUI Natatorium. The women lost to all three squads (Toledo 124-14), (Evansville 126-12), (Louisville 88-47), while the men were defeated by the three teams (Toledo 126-12), (Evansville 108-14), (Louisville 94-44) as well.

OFF TO THE RACES: Freshman Carlton Racette recorded a first place finish in the 200-yard IM, finishing in a time of 2:03.61. Racette also placed second in the 200-yard Butterfly, just ahead of teammate Ryan Ellis, with a time of 2:05.96.

RELAYING THE MESSAGE: Both the men's and women's swimming teams won the 400 yard freestyle relay. The women's relay team, which consisted of Kristen France, Catie Scott, Tara Wetzel and Kaylee Quilling beat the Panthers in a time of 3:50.93, while the men's team of Ryan Ellis, Brendan VanCleve, Patrick McKenny and Carlo Girolamo finished first in a time of 3:26.84.

OTHER NOTABLES: Freshman Kaylee Quilling recorded a first place finish at UWM in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 25.14. She recorded a second-place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle in 51.71....Brendan Van Cleve touched the wall first in the 200-yard Freestyle against the Panthers in a time of 1:49.93. He placed second in the 200-yard Backstroke at the same meet in a time of 2:01.79..freshman Liz Klueh finished first in the 200-yard Backstroke at UWM with a time of 2:18.82.
