Swimming Earns Third-Straight Academic Honor From CSCAA
March 29, 2007
For the third-straight semester, the Butler men's and women's swimming teams continued their nationally acclaimed academic excellence, ranking among the best Division I programs in cumulative grade point average. The College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) made the announcement earlier this month.
The women's team currently touts a 3.39 team grade point average, including a 3.457 mark during the fall 2006 semester, for the 15th-highest GPA in the nation. Their GPA gives the squad three-straight ratings of "superior" by the CSCAA.
The men's team also continued their success in the classroom by recording a 3.04 cumulative GPA, including a 3.191 mark in the fall, which placed them 31st in the nation. It is the third semester in a row that the team has posted a team GPA of 3.00 or higher for a rating of "excellent" by the CSCAA.
Both Butler squads also finished with the highest grade point averages among Horizon League schools.
A total of 350 collegiate teams met the criteria for the award, with all eligible team members averaging at least a 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale. A team was considered "commendable" for posting a GPA of 2.8 to 2.99, "excellent" for 3.00 to 3.24 and "superior" for 3.25 or higher.
The Bulldogs have maintained their level of academic success under head coach Maurice Stewart, earning the CSCAA distinction in each semester that he has been at the helm.
