Scott Cummins Resigns As Butler Men's/Women's Swimming Coach
April 11, 2002
Scott Cummins has resigned his position as men's and women's swimming coach at Butler University, effective at the end of the current academic year. Cummins, who joined Butler's staff in 1999, had served as coach of the Butler swimming program for three seasons.
Following the decision by Cummins, Butler director of athletics John Parry announced that the job of men's and women's swimming coach would be changed from a full-time to a part-time position. Butler will begin to search for a new swimming coach immediately.
Last month, Butler announced that it will be permanently closing its swimming pool in August, as a result of high maintenance/repair costs. It was further announced that men's and women's swimming would continue as NCAA Division I varsity sports, but without athletic scholarships. Butler currently has five teams without athletic scholarships in its 21-sport program.
