Bulldog Swimmers Poised For Break-Out Season

Aug. 4, 2006

Indianapolis, Ind. - Four home dates highlight the 2006-07 Butler swimming schedule, as the Bulldogs square off with regional non-conference opponents and a quintet of Horizon League foes in preparation for the conference championships at the end of February.

"This team is growing and moving in the right direction, with 14 talented newcomers joining 14 returning swimmers," head coach Maurice Stewart said. "I am really looking forward to a great second season as head coach."

The Butler swimmers will once again call the Carmel High School pool home this season, hosting four dual meets during the year. With the exception of a winter training trip to Puerto Rico, the road slate will keep the Bulldogs close to home, with trips throughout Indiana and to Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The schedule kicks off fast and furiously, as the Bulldogs head to the Indiana Intercollegiate on Oct. 14 before returning home to host Evansville, Saint Louis and Valparaiso the following afternoon.

After a stop in Lexington Ky. for a dual meet against Transylvania on Oct. 12, the Bulldogs head to Youngstown on Nov. 3 for a tri-meet, with the women's squad battling Youngstown State and the men's team facing Grove City.

The swimmers return to Carmel on Nov. 12 for a Horizon League tri-meet against UIC and UW-Milwaukee and close out the fall portion of the campaign at the TYR College Classic, running Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. The team will then head to San Juan, Puerto Rico for two weeks of winter training before resuming the season at home on Jan. 14 against UW-Green Bay.

A two-day quad-meet (Jan. 19-20) at IUPUI with Saint Louis and South Dakota State preludes a stop in Dayton for a head-to-head league battle with Wright State on Jan. 28.

The regular season concludes in Carmel on Feb. 4 as the Bulldogs host Vincennes and Xavier on Senior Day. Jason Brozek, Raj Duggal, Korey McCulley and Mary Beth Arnold will be recognized in ceremonies prior to the meet.

The Horizon League Championships run from Feb. 21-24 in Chicago.

"I am pleased with our schedule this year, especially with our opportunity to participate in a prelim-final invitational at the TYR College Classic and to travel to San Juan for Christmas training," Stewart added. "It is also very balanced, with teams that will challenge us and teams that we can be competitive against. I feel this will give us the preparation necessary to do well in the Horizon League Championships."
