Women's Swimming Announces 2008-09 Schedule

Aug. 27, 2008

Indianapolis, Ind. - A pair of regular season tournaments and dual meets against five Horizon League schools highlights the 2008-09 Butler women's swimming schedule, which was released on Monday (August 25).

Head coach Maurice Stewart, who enters his fourth year at the helm, has assembled a challenging campaign for the Bulldogs that will also keep the team fairly close to home during the year.

"This year's schedule features a good mix of non-conference teams that we will be competitive with along with Horizon League teams that will challenge us this season as we continue to rebuild the program," Stewart said.

The Bulldogs will have a new home for the 2008-09 season, as the team will hold its home events at the suburban Fishers High School pool during the year.

"This facility change to the new 10 lane, 50 meter x 25 yard natatorium at Fishers High School is a good move for Butler Swimming," Stewart said. "It will allow us the flexibility to host more teams, run diving concurrently with swimming and possibly hold invitational meets. This is also a much faster pool, and I know we will post some fast performance times at our new home meet facility."

Butler opens up the year in Fishers on Oct. 5 when it hosts Evansville, Saint Louis and league rival Valparaiso to town for a 1:00 p.m. quad meet. The Bulldogs remain in town two weeks later on Oct. 17 when they take on Centre and host IUPUI at the IUPUI Natatorium beginning 5:30 p.m.

The squad closes out the month of October on the road against host Cleveland State and Canisius on Oct. 31 before opening November a day later with a head-to-head battle at Youngstown State.

Butler continues its travels through Milwaukee on Nov. 15 when it battles North Dakota and league foes UIC and Milwaukee before closing 2008 in Indianapolis at the House of Champions Invitational from Dec. 5-6 at the IUPUI Natatorium.

The Bulldogs kick off the 2009 portion of the schedule at the two-day University of Indianapolis Invitational (Jan. 9-10). The regular season concludes nearly a month later when Butler hosts IUPUI and Valparaiso on Feb. 7 in Fishers.

The Horizon League Championship runs from Feb. 25-28 in Milwaukee.

"Overall, I am pleased with the balance in our schedule this season," Stewart added. "It will test us, but I am confident it will prepare us well for a good showing at our mid season invitational and conference championships in February."
