The Butler women's swimming team continues its season on Friday (Oct. 17) when it takes on host IUPUI and Centre College at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The meet will be the first of two appearances for the Bulldogs in the natatorium this season. Butler will return in December for the two-day House of Champions Invitational from Dec. 5-6.
Friday's action will also feature a bit of sibling rivalry, as Butler senior Sarah Lynne Gates will be potentially swimming against her younger sister, Lauren, who is a sophomore at Centre.
The Bulldogs continue their dual meet schedule after a strong season-opening showing on Oct. 5 against Evansville, Saint Louis and Horizon League foe Valparaiso.
Sophomore Leigh Weston tallied the highest finish for the Bulldogs, placing third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.08.
Gates notched a pair of strong showings in the meet, swimming to fifth-place finishes in the 1,000 free (11:37.44) and in the 200 back (2:16.25). Her backstroke time also left her just over a tenth of a second shy of a school top-10 time.
Sophomore Libby Bates finished sixth in the 200 free with a time of 2:07.34 and paced the squad in the 500 free with a seventh-place time of 5:43.57. Senior Katie Krueger, meanwhile, notched a sixth-place showing in the 50 free with a time of 26.82 and added a seventh-place finish in the 100 in a time of 59.21.
Following Friday's meet, the Bulldogs will have nearly two weeks of prep time before traveling to Cleveland, Ohio, to square off with host Cleveland State and Canisius on Oct. 31 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
