Butler Swimming Teams Perform Well Against Indiana Rivals

IN-STATE RIVALRY: The Butler men's and women's swimming teams performed well over the weekend at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet hosted by Purdue University. The women's team placed fourth with 120.5 points, behind the Boilermakers (705.5), Ball State (561.5) and University of Indianapolis (281). IUPUI finished fifth with 102 points, while Valparaiso rounded out the scoring with 97.5 points. The Butler men's team tallied 74 points in the meet while finishing in seventh position, as Purdue led the way with 568.5 points.
QUOTING ELLIS: "We swam really well and placed extremely well in the events based on the size of our team. I was really impressed with my swimmers. It was time for a real meet with head to head competition. The times and places really gave the swimmers a sense of confidence in me and our program. I expect to see great things in the future."
TOP FINISHER: Sophomore Kaylee Quilling was Butler's top individual performer over the weekend at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet. The Plymouth, Wis. product finished in fifth place with a time of 54.67 in the 100 yard freestyle. Quilling also helped the Bulldogs capture a fourth place finish in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:57.48. Joining Quilling on the 200 yard medley team were Jesse Levknecht, Amber Gault and Cherri Mosher.
RACING TO THE FINISH: Sophomore Carlton Racette posted a pair of Top-20 performances over the weekend, finishing in 12th place in the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:02.62 and in 15th place in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 56.16.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: Jesse Levknecht finished in ninth place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.73...Levknecht also finished in the Top-10 in the 100 backstroke, placing seventh in a time of 1:02.10...Catie Scott finished right behind Kaylee Quilling in the 100 yard freestyle, capturing a sixth place finish in a time of 54.80...Brandon Van Cleve was Butler's top finisher in the 100 backstroke, placing 12th in a time of 56.91....senior John Allan narrowly missed a Top-10 Finish, touching the wall in 1:04.33, which was good enough for 11th place in the 100 breaststroke.
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will participate in the Panther Invitational, hosted by Eastern Illinois University, on Nov. 1 and 2. Other schools participating in the Invitational are IUPUI, Valparaiso and Lewis University.
