The Butler women's swimming team continues its season on the road this weekend, as the Bulldogs head to Cleveland on Friday (Oct. 31) for a 5:00 p.m. meet against Canisius and host Cleveland State at the Robert. F. Busbey Natatorium. Butler then travels to Youngstown State the following afternoon for a 12:00 p.m. dual meet against the Penguins at the Beeghly Center Natatorium.
The Bulldogs will make their first appearance in Cleveland since the Horizon League Championship last year and will face the Vikings head-to-head for the first time since the 2001-02 campaign. Butler's contest against Youngstown State, meanwhile, will be the third-straight meeting between the two schools in as many years.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a successful showing against cross-town rival IUPUI and Centre College, as Senior Sarah Lynne Gates scored a pair of wins and sophomore Leigh Weston added a victory and a runner-up showing.
Gates notched victories in both backstroke events. She out-touched her closest competitor in the 100 backstroke by .75 seconds, finishing with a top mark of 1:02.77, and out-paced the runner-up in the 200 backstroke by over five seconds with a time of 2:15.40. Weston, meanwhile, finished less than a second shy of a win in the 100 breaststroke, notching a time of 1:11.54, before scoring a decisive victory in the 200 breast with a time of 2:33.75.
Butler will take on another pair of Horizon League opponents next weekend when it travels to Milwaukee, Wis., on Nov. 8 for a quad meet against host UWM, UIC and North Dakota.
