Butler Swimming Teams Host Eastern Illinois

HOMEWARD BOUND: The Butler men's and women's swimming teams will host Eastern Illinois in a dual meet on Sunday (Dec. 8) at 2 p.m. at Carmel High School. The meet against the Panthers is also Butler's first home meet of the season. The Bulldogs faced their Eastern Illinois foes in the Panther Invitational earlier this season on Nov. 1-2. EIU's women's team captured a first-place finish in the meet (685 points), while Butler placed fourth (282 points). The Panther men also placed first (629 points) and the Butler men finished in sixth position (205 points) at the meet.
INSTATE COMPETITION: The Butler women's swimming team placed third at the Ball State Invitational on Friday (Nov. 22), finishing behind the host Cardinals and Valparaiso. The men's swimming team also finished third behind BSU and Valpo.
QUOTING ELLIS: "It is always fun competing against Ball State and Valparaiso, two of our instate rivals. The competition was good but again, our numbers are hurting us. Individually the Bulldogs swam well. We are still swimming faster and faster at each meet and I expect only great things from us against Eastern Illinois." - Head Coach Nichole Ellis.
TOP FINISHER: Sophomore Jesse Levknecht led the Butler women's swimming team to a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay at the Ball State Invitational. Levknecht also captured a first-place finish in the 100 yard Butterfly, recording a time of 1:01.52. She then won her third event of the day, with a time of 1:03.34 in the 100 yard backstroke.
RACING TO THE FINISH: Sophomore Carlton Racette captured two second-place finishes on Friday at the Ball State Invitational. Racette placed second in the 200 IM in a time of 2:01.82 and then claimed a second-place finish in the 100 yard Butterfly in a time of 55.51.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: Junior Amber Gault swam a season best in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing third with a time of 1.12.82... Catie Scott swam a season-best in the 100 Freestyle, in a time of 54.63, which earned her a second-place finish... Kaylee Quilling swam the 500 Freestyle in 5:29.61, which earned her a second-place finish and was a season-best... Patrick McKenny also swam a personal-best in the 500 Freestyle, finishing in 5:11.26, which gave him a second-place finish... Brendan Van Cleve finished second in the 100 Backstroke in a time of 56.14.
LEAGUE COMPARISON: Several Butler swimmers rank in the Top 10 of their particular event among the Horizon League. Carlton Racette ranks third in the 400 IM (4:24.06) and tenth in the 200 Butterfly (2:00.57). Jesse Levknecht also ranks in the Top Ten in a pair of events - standing in sixth position in the 100 Backstroke (1:02.10) and in ninth place in the 200 Backstroke (2:17.55). Teammate Kaylee Quilling leads the Butler swimmers with a second place standing in the 100 Freestyle (54.03) and a fifth place standing in the 50 Freestyle (25.28). Catie Scott ranks near the top in three events, holding third place in the 100 Freestyle (54.61), sixth place in the 50 Freestyle (25.29) and sixth place in the 200 Freestyle (1:59.51).
