Butler Runners Earn League Athlete of the Week Honors
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler middle distance runners Rob Mullett
and Kirsty Legg have been named Horizon League Track and Field
Athletes of the Week for the period of April 19-25. The two
Butler runners posted individual wins at the Stan Lyons
Invitational on Saturday, April 24.
Mullett, a senior from Brighton, U.K., won the men’s 1500
meter run by nearly nine seconds! He crossed the finish line
in 3:42.21, well ahead of runner-up Chris Fallon’s (Ohio
State) 3:51.06 finish. Mullett, now ranked 10th in the NCAA
Division I and first in the Horizon League in the 1500, narrowly
missed Butler’s school record of 3:42.13 set by Kris Gauson
last year.
Legg, a freshman from Middlesborough, England, also posted an
impressive win the 1500, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the
next competitor. Her winning time was 4:27.89, while Katie
Williams of Ohio State finished runner-up in 4:32.06.
Butler’s track and field squad will compete at the Horizon
League Championship, which begins on Friday (April 30) at
Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.
